Dear EVA Supporters,
This will be our fourth
and final ENEWS for
2009. Our next issue
will come out late
January 2010. I hope you
have enjoyed the
newsletter. I certainly
have enjoyed creating it
each month.
It has been
a pleasure serving the
community these past few
months and I look
forward to 2010. EVA has
a lot planned for Main
Street after the new
year, including
establishing a skating
rink on the frog pond on
lower Main Street once
the weather gets
colder, distributing the
2010 Business and
Services Directory,
continuing to improve
our website,
initiating a new
membership and business
alliance program
to support our operating
needs, planning the
annual Shaker 7 and our
ongoing project work to
beautify Main Street in
conjunction
with Enfield's 250th
Anniversary in 2011.
In closing out 2009,
the board and I would
like to thank our loyal
supporters, especially
all the participants in
our recent Hometown
Holiday event. The
volunteer crew, the
business sponsors and
the attendees made this
years' event a model of
success for the future.
We could not have done
it without everyone
involved. All of you,
"keep the good things
happening" in Enfield
everyday all year long.
Wishing everyone a
healthy and happy 2010!

to join the Executive
Director to identify
candidates to join the
EVA board and three to
four members to join the

Development Committee.
If you or someone you

EVA's Latest Fund Raiser
The
purpose of this program
is to raise funds to
support maintenance and
beautification projects
on the Main Street and
High Street bridges.
We are about to add four
new plaques to the lamp
posts -- three from the
original program and the
first one from our new
program.
The plaques make
great gifts. My
siblings and I just
honored our parents,
Donald A. and Evelyn
J. Crate, with a
plaque as a
Christmas gift. The
plaque will go on
the lamp post just
to the right of
George's AG where my
parents first lived
after moving to
Enfield in the old
Mascoma Hotel which
they owned and
operated for many
years.

On
December 5th, we
sponsored and hosted our
annual Hometown
Holidays. Hometown
Holidays is an annual
event that takes place
downtown. It is an event
that not only celebrates
the holidays but brings
residents together
downtown.
Things sure were hopping
on Saturday, December
5th. We had a One-day
Cafe in the old post
office space. Little
tables with white table
cloths borrowed from the
old Livingstone Lodge
(can you believe they
were left in a trunk and
found by the Smiths when
they purchased the old
lodge) and a few from
the old Kluge's on
Sunset Hill Inn. Each
table (also remnants of
the old Kluge's Inn) was
nicely decorated with a
candle, a menu in a
small birch log
(compliments of Lee
Carrier) and greens
provided and arranged by
Becky Power our local
artist and weaver who
works out of the
Copeland Building. All
the food was donated and
volunteers ran it. The
One-day Cafe was busy
throughout the day.
People were coming in
nonstop and there was
little food left at the
end of the day.

We had three free events
for kids and they were
well attended. They
included cookie
decorating, crafts and
story time. We know we
had at least 88 kids who
decorated cookies, the
craft work shop was busy
nonstop with little time
for the volunteers to
rest and every time I
went into the story time
area, the room was full.

This year, to help with our
costs, we added wreath
decorating where you could
decorate a wreath for $15.
Although we ended up moving
the wreath decorating from
78 Main Street to the center
of town between the Copeland
Building and Blacksmith
Alley half way through the
event due to slow traffic,
it turned out to be a
success too.

To support
local Artisans, Businesses
and Craftsmen, this year we
also added a Holiday Market
at the Community Center with
free entry this year. The
Holiday Market was well
attended and when I polled
the vendors and asked if
they would come back next
year, 100% said yes.

There was a
wagon riding up and down
Main Street which was never
empty and at 1pm Santa
showed up riding in the
wagon.

To top it off, we got a nice
snow fall around 3:00 pm.
The only sad thing about the
snow was that it was wet and
people started leaving
before the tree lighting.

I think everyone had a wonderful
